Ares or Mars

the God of War

His parents were Zeus and Hera, and his sister Eris. He was considered to be the god of war, cruel and crude, aggressive and fighting, without measure and wisdom. On the contrary, Athena was the goddess of the kind of war carried out with measure and prudence. Ares always lost in battle from Athena. His faithful followers were his two sons, the Phobos and Deimos. It was said they lived with barbarian peoples like the Thracians.

The ancient Greeks imagined him to be stout in stature, but handsome and with a voice that equaled the voice of ten thousand men together. He loved the goddess Aphrodite and she responded to his love. But god Hephaestus, who was her husband, reacted very badly to them.

The main center of the worship of Ares was Thebes and the Theban people were considered to be his descendants. Tradition says that Ares did not love the blood sacrifices, but instead he despised them.
